The Case Of JonBenét Ramsey

Before I begin writing this blog, I want to state that I am not an expert in this case. I do not own any of the facts or the photos belonging to this case. It’s a case that impacted me greatly when I was a child and that still haunts me to this day.

Most of this blog will be centered around opinions of mine, but I will be including some known facts that I pulled from Google. I’ll include websites I derived from at the end of the blog. I learned most of the information I did from this case through The Cases That Haunt Us by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

JonBenét Ramsey was born in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia to John and Patricia Ramsey. She also had an older brother named Burke, born in 1987. The family moved to Colorado in 1991. JonBenét Ramsey was entered into multiple children’s beauty pageants in Colorado. She won five pageants and became a sensation!

On December 26th, the Ramsey’s life would ultimately change forever. Patricia calls 911 to report her daughter missing at 5 in the morning. She discovers a ransom note. Two police officers arrived at the home within three minutes of the call. A search for JonBenét began. Sadly, her body was discovered at 1 PM in the family basement.

I was ten years old when this happened. I can tell you exactly where I was. Exactly how I felt when it was put on the news. I was heartbroken for a girl I never knew. Any time I was around somewhere playing the news for a long time after, I was hoping that there’d be news that the killer was found.

As I grew older, I understood the case more than I did back then. I also stopped thinking about it as much as I did in the beginning. Which made me feel guilty. This family lost a child who never really had a chance to grow. They deserved answers. She deserved justice. They still do and she still does.

What gets to me the most is all the tabloids that push out the lies and the misinformation. Every year around Christmas time or after the new year, there’s articles about how the case has finally been solved! It’s always upset me. I feel it’s an insult to her memory. It’s a mockery.

In 2014, a video was uploaded on YouTube with “evidence” that JonBenét Ramsey was never actually murdered. The murder was faked and that JonBenét Ramsey grew up to be Katy Perry. That was the most mind blowing of all. Now, not only are people giving false hope that the case was solved but they are speculating she may not have died at all! Lovely!

The JonBenét Ramsey case is the first case that ever interested me. I was so young, but I was very impacted by what happened to this beautiful young girl. That’s why I found it fitting that this be the first case I talk about in this series. I really wish that her family was able to find justice. I also hope that she has found peace. She was taken from us so young. She never got to live life.

I have a lot more research to dig through. I also have movies to watch it would appear. I fully encourage everybody who is interested to find out all you can about this case and form your own opinions about it. I really enjoyed the perspective glance that was written in The Cases That Haunt Us. It’s a very enlightening book that covers this case and a few others.

True Crime And Conspiracy Theories Introduction

For as long as I can remember, mysteries have intrigued me. The older I get, the darker my curiosities go. I used to be ashamed of this. I thought it meant there was something wrong with me. I finally talked about it. It doesn’t seem so ominous anymore. I like to see the whys behind cases. If I can ever afford to go back to college, I’d gladly get degrees in both psychology and criminology. Both subjects fascinate me deeply.

The news of JonBenet Ramsey happened when I was ten years old. I wasn’t old enough to fully understand what had happened, but it impacted me deeply. It really hit me emotionally. I wanted them to solve the case. I followed the case heavily over the years. It got to the point where I couldn’t look at the trashy newsletters that bring the case up with nonsense. I feel like it’s an insult to her memory.

Another thing I can remember from my childhood is a bit silly. I was trick or treating in my neighborhood one year. I can’t remember how old I was. I came home and I found a cape and a book laying in our yard. I feel like a normal person would think a child left it behind because they were tired of carrying it. I had different thoughts. A girl disappeared in my yard! Her safety was in question! I never did find the owner of the items, nor do I know what happened to them. It occupied my mind for a full week. I can tell you that much.

I know that I will never make an impact on the true crime stories and conspiracy theories I talk about. I’m even fully willing to admit in advance that I may get some things wrong. I ask that you please correct my mistakes so I can learn and fix my studies of the topic. I’m still learning as I go. I also promise to give my most honest and up front thoughts and feelings about whatever I talk about.

I will welcome any suggestions for this blog series. It will be posted every Friday. I may talk about some topics more than once. I will not make them too redundant. For the most part, it will be for things I discovered more about later that I wanted to update and talk about. I do hope you enjoy!
