True Crime and Conspiracy Theories: JonBenét Ramsey

Note: When summarizing the case, I’m only going to add a paragraph or two. I don’t feel comfortable going into too many details when people have worked hard writing articles about these. I’ll give my brief summary and link or links to the articles I got the information from so that anybody can go back and read up on it themselves.

My Thoughts:

I was ten years old when this broke out all over the news. I can’t explain to you how I felt. Looking back, I think this is probably the point where me being an Empath was obvious. It also is the reason I follow certain cases so closely to this day. I also still have a hard time seeing anything fiction or nonfiction about children’s deaths.

For years after the case broke out on the news, I tuned in on every single development that was released. I hoped and I prayed that they would find answers. I was so worried about how obsessed I’d become with the case, I never really told anybody.

Eventually, I had to stop reading anything involving it. They started reaching for impossible things. I felt like it became more about how dramatic the story could be than actually discovering the truth of what happened. I never gave up hope that this case would be solved. I still haven’t. I hope that this case will be solved in my lifetime. I’m not confident it will, but anything is possible.

True Crime and Conspiracy Theories: The Zodiac Killer

Note: When summarizing the case, I’m only going to add a paragraph or two. I don’t feel comfortable going into too many details when people have worked hard writing articles about these. I’ll give my brief summary and link or links to the articles I got the information from so that anybody can go back and read up on it themselves.

Special Note: I’m very sorry for not posting the past two weeks. I’ve been all over the place and really just didn’t have a lot of time to research for the blog. I don’t like giving sloppy or hasty blogs, so I decided to wait until I could devote more time to this.

This Week’s Topic: The Zodiac Killer

Zodiac-Killer.jpg

The Zodiac Killer is known for his killing spree lasting from December 1968 to October 1969. He started sending letters and cryptic messages to newspapers owning to the crimes he’d committed. He claimed 37 victims total. None of the rest of the murders have been proven. One of the messages he sent wasn’t deciphered until 2020.

In October 2021, a group called The Case Breakers believe they may have named The Zodiac Killer. They believe his name was Gary Francis Poste. There are many theoretical reasons to believe that he is the Zodiac Killer. From his behaviors to certain similar characteristics in appearance. Poste has passed away in 2018.

My Thoughts:

There is not a doubt in my mind that The Zodiac Killer killed the 37 people he claimed to kill. If you look at the confirmed cases, they are all cold and calculated. I’m kind of shocked that further investigations on other cold cases in the area haven’t uncovered the links confirming them to The Zodiac Killer. I also wouldn’t be shocked if I found that unsolved cases in other states were linked to him as well.

One thing that really struck me as odd was the different modes of killing. There was one couple that was stabbed. It just makes you wonder. I have two theories on this. Either it was personal and the real reason behind all the killings. Like the others were killed to throw off suspicion. The other theory I have is that there may have been two Zodiac Killers. This one is a bit far-fetched. I’m not fully invested in that one. It just strikes me as odd as all.

I don’t have a lot of thoughts on Poste being named as the Zodiac Killer. I’d really like to read more on why he’s thought to be the killer. It’s not like he can confirm or deny this since he is dead. I haven’t really read enough on the matter to give my full opinion. I have my doubts. I won’t lie. Maybe I’ll have the opportunity to research more into it eventually.

True Crime and Conspiracy Theories: Atlanta Murders 1979-1981

Note: When summarizing the case, I’m only going to add a paragraph or two. I don’t feel comfortable going into too many details when people have worked hard writing articles about these. I’ll give my brief summary and link or links to the articles I got the information from so that anybody can go back and read up on it themselves.

This Week’s Topic: Atlanta Murders of 1979-1981

Atlanta child murders: Mother of slain boy asks for memorial, questions swirl about Wayne Williams' guilt | 11alive.com

About The Case:

Between 1979 and 1981, several people were killed in multiple violent ways. It is believed that Wayne Williams was the murderer. He was convicted of two of them, and all but two of the rest of the cases were attributed to them. The victims ages are between 7 and 28. Williams was 23 years old when he was arrested.

In March 2019, Atlanta Police decided to reopen some of the non-confirmed cases. In June 2021, 40% of the original blood samples were tested. Two of them were confirmed in July of 2021.

My Thoughts:

This is one case that I was actually able to talk to somebody who remembers the event to an extent. That person is mom. She lived in surrounding areas during the time of this. She was nine to eleven years old. The biggest thing she remembers of it all is that they mandated a curfew for all surrounding areas. Personally, I can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been to have this going on around them and not know what was going on at all.

This may be the true-crime enthusiast in me, but there’s a part of me that wonders if all thirty of these were committed by the same person. The motives are all over the place. The age range is pretty interesting as well. I’m most likely inaccurate in my assessment, but it does at least give me pause. Either way, I will remember the victims and keep them close to my heart.

True Crime and Conspiracy Theories: Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard

Note: When summarizing the case, I’m only going to add a paragraph or two. I don’t feel comfortable going into too many details when people have worked hard writing articles about these. I’ll give my brief summary and link or links to the articles I got the information from so that anybody can go back and read up on it themselves.

This Week’s Topic: Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Dee Dee Blanchard

About The Case:

Gypsy was born in 1991. Her mother made consistent fraudulent claims of Gypsy’s health all of her life. It is believed that she suffered a mental illness that caused her to do this. She also claimed that her and Gypsy were victims of Hurricane Katrina. Gypsy tried to run away in 2011. Her mother tracked her down and brought her back home. In 2015, Gypsy met Nicholas Godejohn online. She wound up convincing him to help kill her mother.

Gypsy claims that she did not know that she was capable of walking and had no health issues at all until her mother was dead. She also claims that she feels freer in prison than she ever did in her mother’s care. She has a chance of being released in 2024.

My Thoughts:

This one really gets to me. On the one hand, I want to be horrified at what Gypsy did to her mother. On the other hand, I am also horrified at what her mother did to her. No matter what happens or how long she stays in prison, her life will be forever altered. The real question is, was her life already permanently altered before her mother was even killed? I don’t know Gypsy or Dee Dee. I can’t really make full assumptions. I feel like there are obviously a lot of holes in this story. What I mean by that is that I don’t think a lot of the story was made public. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that this was going on for YEARS without anybody being suspicious. Nobody came forward at all? How much freedom was Gypsy allowed? How often did she get to leave the house? Can I feel sorry for somebody and not be okay with what they chose to do?

I think I want to go back and read more about this case before I solidify my decisions further. There’s a big part of me that wonders what would have happened had somebody looked more into what was going on and put a stop to it before Gypsy felt the need to do what she did. Would Dee Dee have gotten the help she needed? What would have happened to Gypsy? Would she have had a normal life that didn’t involve prison? Would she have gotten her freedom in another way? Many of my questions will never be answered. That’s okay though. Some questions just aren’t meant to be answered.

True Crime and Conspiracy Theories: The Introduction!

I know technically this doesn’t really need an introduction. I tried this blog before. However, I consider it an introduction because I’m revamping it entirely. Every week I’ll be talking about a certain true crime or conspiracy theory that I read about. I will give the main facts and some articles for you to read more about if you’re interested. I will also give my opinions on the cases. I may even include some theories of my own for the ones I have theories on. I’m not going to lie, it’s probably going to be centered more on True Crime than it is Conspiracy Theories, but I will get some in.

Some topics I already have planned out:

  1. Atlanta Murders of 1979-1981
  2. Zodiac Killer
  3. Charles Manson
  4. Fred West
  5. Jack the Ripper

Anything that strikes my fancy will go into a folder and when I’m ready to blog about it, I’ll read up fully and piece my blog together. I really hope that you enjoy this. It’s one of the things that I’d make a career out of if I could. Well, researching true crimes and giving my theories. Maybe even trying to help solve unsolved ones. I don’t really want to do the field work of it all, but I’d love to do the research and lab work of it all. Maybe one day. Who knows?

Copycat Cases: New York City Zodiac and Japanese Zodiac

The case has never been solved. It remains an open case to this day.

The Zodiac Killer is known for killing his victims in cold blood. Some of the victims were killed with a gun. A couple of them were stabbed. Out of the seven confirmed cases, two of the victims survived the attack. One of which was able to give a description of the Zodiac to the police.

Months after the first double homicide, the Zodiac Killer started writing to three newspapers boasting about his crimes. He confessed to the known ones and many others. He claims to have killed thirty-seven people in total. He threatened to go on killing sprees if his story wasn’t placed on the front page.

My thoughts:

There are some things that just don’t really make sense to me with all of this. I’ll start with contacting the newspapers. It seems like the safest place to start. I just don’t get vibes that this person was looking to become a celebrity. I’m inclined to believe that either there were two killers or there was someone out there who followed the case really closely and wanted to make a name for themselves so to speak.

Another thing that didn’t really make sense to me is the change in motive in a few of the cases. Out of the seven victims, two were stabbed. The rest were shot. Why would he have stabbed the two and not the rest? Especially when there was a gun on him. He used it to force them to submit. Also, the last known victim doesn’t fit in either. The rest of the victims had been couples. He was a lone cab driver.

Out of the four cryptograms that the Zodiac sent, only one was solved for sure. I’m curious if there are people out there to this day that still try to work to solve these. I am not going to lie, I probably would if I was good at any of that stuff. I’m not. I am good at being curious on what goes on in the human mind during the darkest of times.

I don’t doubt there were more than seven victims. With the way that the victims were killed, it doesn’t seem like something that was just done on a whim. It wouldn’t shock me if there were victims of the Zodiac that were never found. I also wouldn’t be surprised to find that the person who was taunting the media was somebody entirely different than the Zodiac. They could have even been a potential fan of the Zodiac. What I can say for sure is the case is filled with intelligence and rage.

True Crime And COnspiracy THeory: Mapping It Out

So, this week has been very weird. I’ve been very productive and busy, but at the same time, I haven’t. Like I finished three books between Tuesday night and this afternoon. Anyways, one of the things I have accomplished is finding great books from the library to use as sources. One of which will give me enough material for several weeks of topics.

So this week will be planning out a bunch of different True Crime topics to talk about. Every single case I map out will have a Conspiracy Theory to go behind it the following week. I’d also like to do a special blog talking about the glamorization of true crimes as well.

I plan on looking at other places too. I’m very excited to get this blog officially started! I just want to make sure it’s done right. My plan is to include the dates, victims and two paragraphs about the crime itself. The rest of the blog will be centered around my theories and opinions. With Conspiracy theories, it will just be my opinions. Without judgment. This is going to be so much fun!

True Crime And Conspiracy Theories: Possible Topics for Next Week

For those of you who read my blogs, you will know that I announced bringing this back last week. I didn’t manage to get around to picking a topic to talk about this week. I have been preoccupied with other projects. So I have decided to write four possibilities to discuss for next week to make up for it.

True Crime Options

  1. Jeffrey Dahmer
  2. The Zodiac Killer

Conspiracy Theory Options

  1. The Illuminati (Will zero in on specific if I choose this)
  2. The Moon Landing

If you’re interested in seeing any of these, please comment. Or if you’re interested in another one, comment it as well. I’ll have a topic picked out by the end of tomorrow with all luck. I sincerely hope you enjoy all of these.

The Possible Return Of True Crime And Conspiracy Theories

Awhile back, I started a blog series about true crimes and conspiracy theories. I put it on hold because I really didn’t have a lot of personal time to do the research needed to make these blogs really pop. I still don’t, but what I lack in time I make up for in passion. I am passionate on doing the research. So my thought was to pick the topic I would want to talk about on Friday and spend the week doing research in every spare moment or an hour a day or something like that on said topic. That way I can write out the blog on Thursday and have it scheduled for Friday.

I will also be open to taking any suggestions on things you’d want me to do research on. Remember that true crime doesn’t always have to involve murder. There are many crimes out there that can be talked about. The possibilities are endless. I’m excited about it just thinking about bringing it back. Please let me know if you’re looking forward to this! Thank you!

True Crime And Conspiracy Theories For 2020

It’s a cheesy picture. I know. I probably won’t use it again. I just wanted to use an image for this blog. Last week, I posted my first post for this blog series. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. And it would seem like quite a few of you really enjoyed the blog too.

I had some anxieties about continuing doing them. I don’t want to get anything wrong. This isn’t a subject type that you can spend five minutes on and move on. That being said, I made some plans to help ease the anxiety.

I also plan to make a routine of it. I’m going to alternate between three topics: Unsolved Crimes, Serial Killers, and Conspiracy theories. I’ll find one to fit the category for the week and spend the week doing research on the topic. That way my blogs come off more informative.

I do want to point out that while it will still be more informative, I will also still continue putting my opinions as well. Especially the unsolved ones. I’d like to put my own thoughts and theories into those.

I’m really looking forward to putting this out for everybody. I hope everybody enjoys writing them as much as I’ll be writing about them. I’ll still keep my bookish content flowing as well. I can’t tell you all how much I appreciate your support! Please feel free to suggest any topic for this to me at willowwritesandreads@gmail.com!
