September 8: Back to School

By this point, most schools are probably in session! What books remind you the most of school? They can be about school, something you read for school, or something else, so interpret the prompt as you’d like!

Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast: The series starts with Zoey joining a vampyre finishing school. It’s a boarding school for vampyre fledglings.

The Giver by Lois Lowry: I’m not sure if I was assigned to read this in school, but I do remember reading it for the first time in fifth grade.

Vampire Academy: This one is another vampire boarding school one.

Cold Sassy Tree: This was on the summer reading list when I was in school. I was a senior and it was on the ninth grade list. I was bound and determined to read every book on the list for all grades though!

To Kill A Mockingbird: I read this book for the first time in the ninth grade. It took all my effort to stay at the pace of the class and not read ahead. I really loved the story. I’ve read it a few more times since.

July 7: Independence
For all the Americans out there, the fourth was Independence Day! In honor of the holiday, what are your top 5 books with a rebellion in them?

Can’t get more rebellious than a demon sent to Earth on a mission to find out who her father is. Just saying.

There’s a character in this series called Solomon Verescue. I probably mispelled his last name because I have only listened to the audiobook. But I digress. He’s not only a rebel but he’s a pain in the ass. He’s one of my favorite characters of all time!

This one is really dark. The character doesn’t become rebellious by choice. She had some very horrible things happen to her. It’s definitely a book worth reading.

They say that love is a disease. She believes them. Until she experiences love for herself.

Rose Hathaway has got to be one of the most known rebellions of all time. She’s the very first character I thought of when I read this.

June 30: Long Series
I don’t know about you, but I love a long series, which is anything more than three books. What are your favorites?

This may be considered juvenile, but I have enjoyed this series since I watched the movies back in high school. Eventually I’m going to get around to reading the series again so that I can read the Wedding book that came out a few years ago.

This is an amazing series. I can’t say I’m in love with every single book in the series, but they are all a hoot. There are twenty-eight books in the series so far. It’s like reading I Love Lucy does bounty hunters.

This has been another favorite series of mine since high school. My best friend at the time took me to see the movie to the first book. I loved it. I have to separate it from the book now, but I digress. I need to read the series in order if I’m being honest.

I can’t remember when I first started reading this series. It was over a decade ago at least. It’s such a good book. I find each of the females in the club so relatable and so down to earth. I just wish more people read this series so I had somebody to talk to about this series. Just recently watched the television show adaptation. I wasn’t impressed with the adaptation. The show was really good though. Wish there was more than one season.

I’m actually currently reading this series. All books are very long. They are 700-900 pages each. There are many different series in the series. I think the main series itself has 11 books. I’m on book 10 now. They are so good, but they are very disturbing. There are many very hard topics and graphic details sprinkled in the series. I dont’ recommend it for people who are triggered easily.

June 9: Recent Purchases
Most book lovers have a hard time going too long without a book purchase. What are five books you’ve purchased recently that you’re excited to read or you’ve loved?

I only just ordered Hush Hush, so I haven’t gotten it in the mail yet. I also haven’t gotten Dread Nation yet either. I’m supposed to get it in the mail today at some point. The books that are part of series are for the entire series not just the first book. Aren’t the covers so very pretty? I really love them and can’t wait to dig into them! I’m about to start Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall today! What are some of your recent buys?

May 19: Family Dynamics
World Family Day was on May 15, so to celebrate it this week’s prompt is about family dynamics in books! Family is not just who you are related to by blood, so you can even find some of your favorite found family examples.

In this series, the family dynamic is a group of girls that are almost like sisters! They are amazing.

There are multiple family dynamics in this one!

Now this one is my favorite family dynamic of all time. I really love it. I fully recommend everybody read this trilogy. Be prepared to be hit with all of the emotions. I may actually reread it very soon.

Another one with a group of friends that turn into a family dynamic. Also, there’s Grandma Redbird. If you know, you know!

Alex Cross is just such an amazing father! And he has such an amazing grandmother. It’s just so beautiful!

May 12: Favorite Tropes
This week’s prompt is pretty self-explanatory. What are your favorite tropes and what are some examples of them in books?

  1. Soul Mates: I know this is a really cheesy one. It’s also not one I fully believe in. I do love reading about it. Especially mates in books like The Paranormals of Avynwood.
  2. The Chosen One: It’s weird that this is one of my favorites as it’s also one that annoys me the most. But I do love reading books with them in it.
  3. Second Chances: I have found recently that I really like these type of books. I’ve read quite a few that were really amazing.
  4. The Secret Heir: I’m not going to lie. I haven’t read many books of this nature. I do love them. They are very lovely reads.
  5. Powerful Artifact: Think about it. The ring from Lord of the Rings. The Compass in His Dark Materials. The Subtle Knife. The Amber Spyglass. I could go on. I think you get the point though.
