I fill the cup and stand there with the lid in my hands. Quinn had tea in her room, but I didn’t notice any honey, nor was there milk in her fridge. I put the top on and stalk over to the counter to pay. Here I am, making tea for a human and feeling ridiculous for doing it, but I still take her the fucking cup because I want her to be happy.

A vampire taking care of a human. It’s so cute.

Evan grabs my arm when I move to walk away, his grip firm, punishing. “She’s not responsible for how you feel. It’s not her job to fight your demons.”

I loved this so much! I can’t even begin to explain.

I’ve never been the girl that likes bad boys, I’m much too pragmatic for that, but something about Griffin both intrigues me and pisses me off. I can pinpoint what pisses me off no problem, it’s the other more curious part that’s driving me insane. I remember one of my roommates my junior year had a thing for a football player. He treated her like total shit, I asked her why she put up with it. “He burns bright Quinn,” she said, “so bright that sometimes it’s worth the scorch to be close to him.” I didn’t understand her words then, and still don’t. Well, I don’t think I understand them anyway. I’m not exactly sure how I would respond if Griffin showed a real interest in me, but I do know he would need to stop being a dick.

I can’t explain why this hit me so hard.

“You guys want anything while I’m up?” “More popcorn?” Evan gives me a hopeful wince, tipping the empty bowl in my direction. “Are you actually going to share some this time?” I place my hands on my hips. “You had a handful,” he counters. “Yeah, and I thought I was going to lose a finger.” Teasing him is fun. Evan grumbles about eating something under his breath, but I don’t catch it. Griffin lifts his hand to hide his mouth, but his eyes crinkle on the sides, giving him away.

I loved the casual and natural banter here. It’s just soothing and wonderful.

Thursday Quoteables: The Secret Life of Addie LaRue

It ends, the music replaced by applause, and Toby sidles up to the bar, orders a Jack and Coke because they’ll give it to him for free, and somewhere between the first sip and the third he sees her, and smiles, and for an instant Addie thinks—hopes, even now—that he remembers something, because he looks at her as if he knows her, but the truth is simply that he wants to; attraction can look an awful lot like recognition in the wrong light.

This one speaks for itself for me.

How do you walk to the end of the world? she once asked. And when Addie didn’t know, the old woman smiled that wrinkled grin, and answered. One step at a time.

This is a witty joke. I love it.

What she needs are stories.

Stories are a way to preserve one’s self. To be remembered. And to forget.

Stories come in so many forms: in charcoal, and in song, in paintings, poems, films. And books.

Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives—or to find strength in a very long one.

It’s such a simple thing that none of us ever think about. We want to think that no matter what happens, there will be somebody around to remember us and miss us.

Because time is cruel to all, and crueler still to artists. Because visions weakens, and voices wither, and talent fades…. Because happiness is brief, and history is lasting, and in the end… everyone wants to be remembered

Thursday Quoteables: Christmas Favorites

Note: Doing this week’s different in honor of Christmas. Hope you enjoye!

Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.

– Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

One can never have enough socks. Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn’t get a single pair. People will insist on giving me books.

– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Everyone wants a Christmas tree. If you had a Christmas tree Santa would bring you stuff! Like hair curlers and slut shoes.

– Janet Evanovich, Visions of Sugar Plums

It was the beginning of the greatest Christmas ever. Little food. No presents. But there was a snowman in their basement.

– Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

Christmas is like candy; it slowly melts in your mouth sweetening every taste bud, making you wish it could last forever.

– Richelle E. Goodrich, Smile Anyway

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

– Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

It isn’t what kind of house you have that matters. This is not happiness. It’s what kind of mind you have, and how you care for your fellow man — what you can do to help others who can be helped by no one else.

Kindness and compassion will always be more important than wealth and objects.

Richard will have my hand, but you should know as well as anyone that he will not be eating out of it –and I wouldn’t want him to.” – Kahlan

Richard will always be his own person and make his own decisions. She will not have him any other way.

We all make mistakes.

The people who love us forgive the mistakes.

The people who won’t forgive don’t really matter.

This speaks well enough on its own.

Wizard’s Fourth Rule

There is magic in sincere forgiveness; in the forgiveness you give, but more so in the forgiveness you receive.

Love this.

Every couple needs to argue now and then. Just to prove that the relationship is strong enough to survive. Long-term relationships, the ones that matter, are all about weathering the peaks and the valleys.

This speaks so much to me.

Love doesn’t mean anything if you’re not willing to make a commitment, and you have to think not only about what you want, but about what he wants. Not just now, but in the future.

Yes!

That’s the thing about life. A lot of the time, it isn’t easy at all. We just have to try to make the best of it.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Because everybody lies. It’s part of living in society. Don’t get me wrong-I think it’s necessary. The last thing anyone wants is to live in a society where total honesty prevails. Can you imagine the conversations? You’re short and fat, one person might say, and the other might answer, I know. But you smell bad. It just wouldn’t work. So people lie by omission all the time. People will tell you most of the story…and I’ve learned that the part they neglect to tell you is often the most important part. People hide the truth because they’re afraid.” -Jo

I got the chills so bad reading this the first time I had to read it again two more times.

Wizard’s Third Rule

Passion rules reason, for better or for worse.

This speaks volumes to me. If somebody has somebody you love dearly captive, any logical reason is thrown out the window.

Even a foolish old woman like me knows that lazy people don’t think for themselves; they only think about themselves.

Another one that speaks volumes. I’ll let it speak for itself.

As you learn to be other than Mord-Sith, like I learned as I grew up, you’ll find that being a friend is to like a person for who they are, even the parts you don’t understand. The reasons you like them makes the things you don’t understand unimportant. You don’t have to understand, or do the same, or live their lives for them. If you truly care for them, then you want them to be who they are; that was why you liked them in the first place.

A deep thought on the true meaning of friendship.

We don’t want to lose you Lord Rahl. We don’t want to go back to way things were.” She sounded on the verge of tears. “We like being able to do simple things, like make a joke, and laugh. We could never do such things before. We always lived in fear that if we said the wrong thing we would be beaten, or worse. Now that we have seen another way, we don’t want to go back to that. If you throw your life away for the Midlands, then we will.- Cara

It’s just amazing how quickly the loyalty changed. In the best way possible though.

You have to make peace with the past or you can never move into the future,

This is such a simple yet powerful quote that speaks for itself.

Perhaps now that she’d told the story, it would lose its power over her. She hoped she would never have to repeat it to anyone ever again.

We all have stories in us. Sometimes it heals us to get the traumatic ones out of our system so to speak.

Knock, knock.” Auri put down her coffee and texted back. “Who’s there?” “A little old lady.” She knew this one but went along with it, anyway. “A little old lady who?” “Oh, my god! All this time, I had no idea you could yodel!

Just a small example of some of the funny parts in this book. I want to own a copy of my own! I’m thankful I got it from the library, but I will read it again!

One shot of our espresso, and you’ll be able to thread a sewing machine. While it’s running.

This one hit me so hard I had to pause the audiobook until I was done laughing.

The scientists would say this is all expected, that the pressure in my chest was just the toll traversing took on my most concentrated bones, and that my dreams are the same as the hallucinations in the hatch because they are both just the mind trying to process what it doesn’t understand. And there is a world where they are right, and a world where they are wrong, and I don’t need to know which this is.

This basically explains the majority of the book.

Because that’s what a sister is: a piece of yourself you can finally love, because it’s in someone else.

And when a sister dies, that piece dies with them and it can never be healed.

They say hunting monsters will turn you into one. That isn’t what’s happening now. Sometimes to kill a dragon, you have to remember that you breath fire too. This isn’t a becoming; its a revealing. I’ve been a monster all along.

The quote says it all.

I am always pretending, always wearing costumes but never just clothes.

This speaks to me loudly.

I’ve found that the way a person feels about cats-and the way they feel about him or her in return-is usually an excellent gauge by which to measure a person’s character.

I feel this is true for all animals in general really.

You are old beyond your years Zoeybird. Believe in yourself and you will find a way. But remember darkness does not always equate to evil just like light does not always bring good.

This has been one of my favorite quotes of all time. It hit home with me the very moment I read it.

Actually, since I’m gay I think I should count for two guys instead of just one. I mean, in me you get the male point of view and you don’t have to worry about me wanting to touch your boobies.

I always loved how straightforward and blunt Damien was in the series.

I clamped down on the sick, hurt feeling inside that threatened to make me burst into tears. My eyes dried instantly. I was good at hiding tears. I should be; I’d had three years to get good at it.

Something I can relate to on a very personal level.

Sometimes, making the wrong choice is better than making no choice. You have the courage to go forward, that is rare. A person who stands at the fork, unable to pick, will never get anywhere.

This is very true. We are allowed mistakes.

There is no such thing as pure good or pure evil, least of all in people. In the best of us there are thoughts or deeds that are wicked, and in the worst of us, at least some virtue. An adversary is not one who does loathsome acts for their own sake. He always has a reason that to him is justification. My cat eats mice. Does that make him bad? I don’t think so, and the cat doesn’t think so, but I would bet the mice have a different opinion.

My ex-fiance and I used to have many conversations about this. I agree with it so much.

Everything is valuable under the right conditions. To a man dying of thirst, water be more precious than gold. To a drowning man, water be of little worth and great trouble.

This is very true. I never thought of it that way before.

The Wizard’s First Rule: People are stupid; given proper motivation almost anyone will believe almost anything.

No words needed.
