Weekly Featured Book: The Pull of the Stars

The Pull of the Stars: A Novel by [Emma Donoghue]

My mother and I read this book for our book club. We read The Wonder in the past for book club as well. I was a little nervous about this book. I was thinking it wouldn’t be my thing. I was wrong. It’s an incredibly beautiful story that I enjoyed very much. I will probably wind up reading it over and over again. The fact that it was historical but kind of relates to our current events is pretty amazing as well.

Weekly Featured Book: Survive The Night

Survive the Night: A Novel by [Riley Sager]

I was going to use this for a challenge for the Hocus Pocus Readathon. I was to be dressed up while reading it. I was really hot and uncomfortable in the costume. So I decided to replace it with something else and call it a day. I still want to read the book. It’s been very good so far. It has a bit of a slow start. I won’t lie. And it’s a bit dry compared to the rest of Sager’s books. Either way, it’s really good. Has anybody else read it?

Weekly Featured Book: The Lost Apothecary

The Lost Apothecary: A Novel by [Sarah Penner]

I started reading this book Sunday night. I’m using it for two challenges for the Hocus Pocus readathon. Read with candlelight and only at night. I was absorbed into the book from the very beginning. I read a hundred pages on the first night! And I seriously debated just staying up to read the last two hundred pages. It’s definitely a thrilling book.

Weekly Featured Book: The Omen Machine

The Omen Machine: Sword of Truth - A Richard and Kahlan Novel by [Terry Goodkind]

I recently just finished this book. This entire series has stolen a good portion of my life for the better part of this past year. Just when you think things are finally going to start calming down, something major happens. You’re left on the edge of your seat through the ride. There are some parts that are a little hard to swallow, but for the most part it’s an amazing book in an amazing series.

Weekly Featured Book: The First Confessor

The First Confessor: The Legend of Magda Searus by [Terry Goodkind]

I really enjoyed reading this book very much. I just finished the book yesterday. The story was referenced numerous times and I was wanting to see how things actually went down. It answered so many things for me that I was confused on. It also shined light on how long some things had actually been going on.

Weekly Featured Book: Winter’s Rise

I read this during the weekend when I was hosting my readathon. It was so good! I can’t wait to read more books by this author. I really adored all of the characters in this book. Especially Nina and Ryker. Nina quickly became one of my book girlfriends. I fully recommend everybody checking this book out. The link is attached to the cover.

Weekly Featured Book: Balanced

This one might be slightly controversial, and I get it. I really do. I’d like to be heard on why I chose this before anybody makes massive judgments. Please.

First of all, I want to strongly state that I am very uncomfortable with the romance in this story. It’s not really something I agree with. However, I have a lot of respect with the realism of the story itself. The author may not be happy to hear my take on this, but it’s my opinion.

Personally, I got really strong vibes of manipulation and grooming in this story. That’s why I say I have a great respect for the realism of the book. Not once is the romance glamorized or made to look appealing. It’s raw and it’s ugly. The guy comes off as a total predator in my eyes.

Another real aspect I’d like to talk about is how some of these girls push themselves just to achieve and obtain their goals. It’s really frightening to see. It’s even more scary to see them being pushed past their breaking point. Our main character, Arianna, basically starved herself and obsessed with everything she put in her body. She was working out and training ten hours or more a day for six days a week. Not only did she not need to cut back on her diet, but really she should have added to it!

All in all, this could be turned into a Lifetime movie or television show. I’d probably watch it. I get that people are upset about the content of this book. I agree. I just ask that they maybe see it from a different point of view.
