Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon Results

My favorite readathon was this weekend! Sadly, I missed out on about half of it. I’m still in training at work and couldn’t ask for it off. Next time I’ll be able to request off! Either way, I did a pretty great job! I read over 400 pages in about 9 hours. I also wound up finishing three books. They were books I had made great progress on before the readathon, but I’m still very happy.

Did anybody else attend? I’d love to see your results!

Dewey’s Readathon: Closing Survey

Closing Survey:

How would you assess your reading overall?

I think I did really amazing. In fact, I think this was one of my most successful readathons ever! I’ll have results posted on my blog with the hour by hour progress.

Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it?

I actually didn’t this time around. My only focus was finishing as many books that I’ve been in the middle of for a while. I definitely succeed with that. I wound up finishing three books!

What was your favorite snack?

My favorite “snack” of the day was the sliders I made. It’s not really a snack persay. It was lunch. It was still my favorite. It was so good!

Did you add any new books to your TBR/wishlist after seeing what everyone else is reading?

Yes! Too many to count!

What was your favorite book or experience from this readathon?

Getting to connect with others while we enjoyed reading together. Even if we weren’t actually together.

Dewey’s Readathon: Mid-Event Survey

Mid Event Survey:

What are you reading right now?

Currently reading The High Mountain Court by A.K. Mulford and listening to Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind

How many books have you read so far?

Read five, finished two

What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

I’m not really sure. All of them!

Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

There were instances where my family wanted to chat with me. I talked a bit and then reminded them of readathon and went back to reading.

What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

How well I’ve been doing and how focused I’ve been!

Dewey’s Closing Survey

I know the event ended at 8 am. I am just posting this now because I was tired and basically passed out right after the event. I slept all the way up until work. This is the first chance I’ve gotten to answer the questions and post them. Hope you enjoy.

How would you assess your reading overall?

I wound up listening more than actually reading, but I think I did a very amazing job. I managed to read or listen to a book for 21 of the 24 hours. That’s pretty amazing. I was even very successful in keeping up with my progress every single hour! I finished two books!

Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?

I made an hourly schedule out so that I could toggle reading and listening to audiobooks. That way I didn’t exhaust my eyes. I wound up altering the schedule, but I stuck with the alterations and stayed steady.

What was your favorite snack?

Jalepeno Cheddar Cheetos! They are just so yummy!

Wanna volunteer for our next event? Stay tuned for the recap post!

It would be a true honor. I put in five hours this time and it was the most amazing time for me! Interacting with everybody was just truly an experience!

Hour 11 Mini Challenge: Around A Campfire

Taken from the Mini-Event Page:

Autumn in Ohio is a perfect time to sit around a fire, roast ‘smores, and chat. So for Hour 11’s mini-challenge, pretend with me. You’re sitting by a campfire with some friends. The wind is blowing and the air is just getting that crisp feeling.

Tell us:

Who would be sitting around the fire with you?
What are you listening to?
What snacks would you have?
We know you brought a book, which one is it?
It’s your turn to tell a spooky story, which one is it going to be?

My Responses:

Who would be sitting around the fire with you?

My dog, my girl, and maybe a few friends and family.

What are you listening to?

Probably a radio station that plays music that we all enjoy.

What snacks would you have?

Probably some veggies and chips and dip.

We know you brought a book, which one is it?

Most likely I’ll have my Kindle so I can read even if it gets dark.

It’s your turn to tell a spooky story, which one is it going to be?

I’d probably try to recall one from Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

Dewey’s Mid-Event Survey

1. What are you reading right now?

I’m currently listening to Blood Of The Fold by Terry Goodkind and reading Nothing Can Hurt You by Nicola Maye Goldberg. Almost done with Nothing Can Hurt You!

2. How many books have you read so far?

I’ve read four books. Finished one. Put down another.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

I’m looking forward to finishing Nothing Can Hurt You and starting another one of my library books.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

I’ve had some times where family wanted to chat. I just chatted with them and moved on. It didn’t hurt anything. There was a time period where I got very tired. So I took an unplanned nap for about two hours. I changed up the schedule.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

The fact that I’ve been able to follow my own schedule for the most part. I’ve had some things that I’ve switched around, but it’s all been very smooth.

Dewey’s Opening Survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Georgia. The state in the USA not the country.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I didn’t really plan out a TBR specifically. I just took inventory of the books I have set aside to read and try to read them as quickly as possible.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I have some lovely cream cheese jalapeno poppers! I’m most excited about those. I’ll be air frying them.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

My name is Nicole. A lot of people I know call me Nikkie. I’ve been a blogger off and on since 2013. For awhile, I ran a blog called Willow Writes And Reads. I’ve recently rebranded to Star’s Books & Tea. Still need to get a logo made for it, but it feels like it fits me so much. When I’m not reading, I’m either coloring or playing games. I also enjoy spending time with my family and watching television on occasion.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I plan to be more focused this time around. I’ll also do my best to keep up with all posts and interact with people. I want to make friends as well!
