Review:

Story: I’ve been excited to read this book for a very long time. I’ve had some bad luck with books I’ve been excited about not really meeting their expectations lately. Luckily, this wasn’t one of those. It actually exceeded my expectations greatly. I loved how even though it was a dark fantasy, it was filled with hope and love. I also got my sarcastic main character in there was well. I can’t resist reading books with those.
Characters: Janneke quickly became one of my favorite characters of all time. At least most of the time. There were times I wanted to shake her and tell her to pull herself together, but I have times like that about many people. Including myself. She’s just so realistic. I think many people can identify with her.
Critiques: None
Narration: I really enjoyed the narrator that read this book. I didn’t listen to it all. I went back and forth reading it in ebook and listening to it in audiobook. It really made the reading experience very enjoyable.
Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book very much. I’m actually looking forward to reading the next book. If I didn’t have one book ahead of the second book, I’d be diving into it right now. I already planned to read the one I’m starting next though. I’m so excited for book two!!!!

Fifty Words for Rain: A Novel by [Asha Lemmie]

Review:

Story: I found this book very depressing and thought-provoking. I can only be thankful that other points of view were thrown into the book. If not, the book would be very depressing and morose. I’m not saying I didn’t like the main character. She was just dealt a very bad hand in life. She was punished for things that she couldn’t control. She didn’t ask to be born.
Characters: I really didn’t find myself connecting to any of the characters if I’m being honest. There were some I found myself feeling warmly about some, but I had issues with all of them. Also, I found the names really confusing. Some of them were a little too similar.
Critiques: The names being too similar is the only thing I can think of.
Narration: I both listened to and read this book. When I couldn’t read, I listened. The narrator was really great. If it weren’t for listening, I wouldn’t have gotten the pronunciations of most of these words if I’m being honest. I feel like I learned a bit.
Final Thoughts: While the book was very depressing, it was beautiful. I would have liked to see the story continue. There are theories that the book ends in a way that make it seem like there may be a sequel. I am very open to this idea. I hope that it will answer some of the many questions I have left.

I’d love to see your book reviews!
