Weekly Book Reviews: 11/13/21

Note: The reviews will be pulled directly from my reviews on Goodreads.

Carefree Black Girls: A Celebration of Black Women in Popular Culture by [ZEBA BLAY]

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Date Finished: November 8th

Story: This wasn’t as much of a story as a book of essays. I will review it a little bit differently because of that. The book is talking about the struggles of black girls and women in pop culture society. Naturally, as a white woman, I can’t really give my opinions on certain things. I will say that I learned quite a lot from this. I’m glad that I read it and will most likely read it again.
Characters: N/A
Critiques: None at all
Narration: I listened to the audio and it was narrated by the author herself. I think that put a lot more impact on the essays than if somebody else narrated them. She also has a wonderful voice.
Final Thoughts: There’s a lot that can be taken from this book. I know I personally learned a lot while listening to it. I also know that I will be reading this again a few times. Well, at least once. I do see myself reading it more than once though. The author has incredible writing talent.

If You Ask Me: (And of Course You Won't) by [Betty White]

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Date Finished: November 9th

Story: This is a memoir so I will be reviewing differently. Betty White talks about some of her most iconic moments in history. It’s a very short and easy read. I listened to it in one sitting. I really don’t have much to say on the whole thing except it was so nice to hear the behind the scenes so to speak.
Characters: N/A
Critiques: None
Narration: Betty White narrated this herself. She is such a riot. I’m a huge fan!
Final Thoughts: I had the biggest urge to hunt down all of the other books she’s written and read them as well. The only thing that stopped me was my bank account.

Within These Wicked Walls: A Novel by [Lauren Blackwood]

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Date Finished: November 8th

Story: I was really excited to read this book. I’ve seen it all over the place for I don’t even know how long. The cover is very captivating as well. I was disappointed that it wasn’t what I had it hyped up to be in my head. I won’t lie. It was a very good story. It just wasn’t really what I was expecting it.
Characters: I really can’t remember many of the character or characters’ names. I really didn’t connect with any of them though. If I’m being honest.
Critiques: None
Narration: I can’t remember who narrated it. However, I did really enjoy the narrator. She was very amazing. I’ll listen to more audiobooks by her.
Final Thoughts: While it wasn’t my cup of tea, I don’t think it was a horrible book. I really did enjoy it. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Date Finished: November 11th

Story: This is the third volume of the Heartstopper series. I read the entire volume in one sitting. I am not really surprised. I did the same with the first two. It’s been so amazing. I relate to Charlie in so many ways. I really am so supportive of the relationship between him and Nick and can’t wait to watch it grow in the next two volumes.
Characters: I really enjoyed watching all of the characters in the book grow and evolve in this book. I feel like we see more interactions in this novel than we did in the first two. That may just be me. We also get a glimpse of something going on with Charlie.
Critiques: None
Narration: N/A
Final Thoughts: Can it be January so that I can get my hands on the fourth volume? And the fifth volume whenever it’s to be released? I need more!

I’d love to see your book reviews!
