Weekly Book Reviews: 10/16/21

Note: The reviews will be pulled directly from my reviews on Goodreads.

The Lost Apothecary: A Novel by [Sarah Penner]

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Date Finished: October 12th

Story: This involves two different time frames and three perspectives. Two from the late 1700s. One from the current times. All three characters are going through some major dilemmas. They have all been hurt in some way. It’s very intense and emotionally involving.
Characters: Nellie is this very serious woman. She’s been through a lot of pain and suffering in her life. She still finds it in her to care about others. Even if she doesn’t show it very well. Eliza is a very young girl. She has also been through a lot in life. Including being sent away from home at a very young age so that she could build a life for herself. Finally, there’s Caroline. She just found out the love of her life and husband of ten years cheated on her. She decides to go on their planned ten-year anniversary trip alone to sort things out.
Critiques: None
Narration: N/A
Final Thoughts: This is a very thought-provoking book. It’s also very emotionally driven. I’m so glad that I chose to read the book. I was drawn in by the cover. I wouldn’t have even begun to guess what the book was about. It’s a pleasant surprise though.

A Lesson in Vengeance by [Victoria Lee]

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Date Finished: October 9th

Story: After the tragic death of her girlfriend, Felicity spends time away from school. She finally goes back to complete her senior year. She’s finally convinced herself that magic and ghosts don’t exist. However, the longer she stays
Characters: I connected really well with Felicity and Ellis. I wish I would have gotten to see more scenes involving Alex. I don’t feel I got a true feel for her character. I also didn’t really get enough of a feel for the other girls either. At least not as much as I would have liked to.
Critiques: I don’t feel there was a true closure with her and her mother.
Narration: N/A
Final Thoughts: This book wrecked me fully. I was not expecting the ending at all. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t expecting much of what happened in the book! I really did enjoy it and look forward to reading it again in the future.

I’d love to see your book reviews!
