Writing Prompt: Clock and Bicycle

Tabitha flung herself on the couch the moment she was close enough to reach it. She was exhausted. She had had a long day. It was one of those if something could happen it would. She didn’t necessarily have a bad day. It was just incredibly long and very tedious.

The worst part about it all was that she had nobody she could really vent to. Most people would consider her venting as her saying she had a bad day and would automatically offer encouraging or sympathetic words. Nothing irritated her more than well-meant but very generic empathetic statements about her well-being.

Tabitha found herself jolting awake to the sound of the town’s clock donging. She was pondering how long she had been asleep as she counted the dongs. Ten. Ten dongs. She had slept four hours. She must have been more tired than she thought.

As she was getting up, she realized something felt off. She sensed a presence that definitely wasn’t there when she had gone to sleep. She closed her eyes and let her guard down. There was definitely somebody there. She knew instinctively that it was not an evil presence.

Upon inspecting the house she noticed that there was a bicycle in the garage that hadn’t been there before. A bicycle she knew all too well. She let her head hit the door and let out a huff of exasperation. This had better be good.

“Clyde! Show yourself. Now!”

A very tall and lanky man wearing a lilac mini dress popped out of the closet. He had on lilac heels to match. His hair and purse were the brightest pink Tabitha had ever seen.

“The closet, Clyde? Really? How original!”

“Oh come on! You love it! Don’t lie!”

He leaned in to kiss both of her cheeks. She returned the favor and they hugged. They made their way to the living room and sat down. It was quiet for a moment. Neither knowing what to say to the other.

“So…. who’s bike?”

“How should I know?”

“Um… you took it!”

“Fair point! They won’t even miss it. I found it by the trash! Can you believe that? A brand new bike! Some people!”

“Clyde!”

“Okay fine! I stole it from Ginger.”
