Thursday Quoteables: Ash and Stone

Thank you Lisa for hosting this great meme!

Welcome to Thursday Quotables! This feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week.  Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines will be, and you’re invited to join in!

As soon as the gargoyles leave, Cerek turns to me, pinning me to my seat with a stare. “Why are you hiding in this room acting like a scared human? You are so much more than anything in creation right now. Why do you think both sides would want you dead if they learned what you are? You could change the world with a single thought.” His eyes burn with desire as he stalks forward. “You’re busy entertaining gargoyles and chasing prophecies, but you are ours. Lilith promised you to us in exchange for our silence. And I will have you… all of you.”

Need more. Crave more. Desire more.

I shuffle down the long corridor of level four. It’s time to report for work, which today means torturing the greedy. I feel a sense of pride in punishing the wicked. The people that spent their lives hoarding wealth while watching others suffer. They deserve everything that’s coming to them.

This is the opening of the book. Isn’t it a strong opening? It’s one of my favorite openings of all time.

We follow Edith out of the apartment and watch as she carefully locks the door behind her. Going down the stairs is easier, but I think I’m going to have the best ass any demon has ever had living here.

I just love the sass behind this one right here. I also don’t mind the visual. Just saying.

“I thought you said that young people didn’t live here.” She turns and stares at Edith.

“No… I said we typically don’t appeal to a younger crowd. The stone family has owned an apartment since the building was opened. We can’t do anything about them.” Edith gazes out the window at the man standing by the side of the street the mutters under her breath. “Sometimes I wish they would move out, but then what would I have to look at on boring days?”

I love this for many different reasons. But it’s proof that we all love our eye candy!!!!
