Welcome to Thursday Quotables! This feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines will be, and you’re invited to join in!
I suppose I should warn you, Padre. In the absence of male supervision, my mother has become a revolutionary.” Renzo Leoni
There are just so many words to say. I could write a book on my feelings on this. Instead, I’ll just let the quote speak for itself.
The steamy, noisy kitchen was the safest place in the world, it seemed to him. Safety had never been anything to think about before; it was something you took for granted, like his mother’s endless, effortless, generous food, and the fact that there would always be hot plates ready to serve it on.
It’s amazing the little things that we take for granted that we think will e there for ever. Safety, comfort, love, compassion. People. One day, they aren’t there anymore and we feel it like a hole in us.
If a bank robber tapes over the lens of a surveillance camera, that’s MO. If he feels a need to tear his clothes off and dance naked before that same camera, that’s signature.
This example of the difference between the two is priceless. I love it!
The things that go unsaid are often the things that eat at you – – whether because you didn’t get to have your say, or because the other person never got to hear you and really wanted to.
This resonates with me so much. I can’t even begin to explain how much the quote struck me. I’m constantly obsessing over the things I never said to people. I think that’s more anxiety than anything, but yeah.
