I really enjoy reading. It’s one of my favorite pastimes. However, I also love doing other things. I love playing games and browsing the web. I used to get weird about “wasting so much time doing those things when I could be reading”. I’m a weird person. I can’t help it.
In 2014, I decided to start listening to audiobooks while I did activities where I could “read” but not actively. I listened while working out, cleaning, gaming, and browsing. It has significantly improved my reading life.
I know a lot of people will say that you aren’t really reading when you listen to an audiobook. I disagree. I mean sometimes I have to rewind because I drifted off, but quite frankly I have that problem with books as well. I have ADHD. My mind wanders at random. I can’t help it.
Actually, I feel like listening to audiobooks, I’m more willing to do things I normally dread. I find cleaning and exercising much more enjoyable. I like music, but I have to be in a mood to listen to music. Otherwise, I’ll just flip through songs and never really listen to a full one. I’m weird. I know.

Also, I’ve become aware of groups and communities all about audiobooks. It’s very incredible. I can’t tell you how I stumbled upon them, though. It’s so much a part of my activity now that I can’t recall a time I wasn’t in the groups. Is that cheesy?
I’ve met so many great authors, narrators, and other beautiful people in the book community. And since I started this blog last summer, I’ve met a bunch of beautiful book bloggers, but I digress. There are a few narrators who I will buy their audiobooks from without a second thought.
The final reason I can think of is the fact that my taste in genre has expanded. I’m listening to genres I would have never listened to before. It’s caused my reading to double and almost triple. All in all, I’m happy to be a part of this wonderful community. I’m hoping one day to become a narrator myself.

I’ve only just got into audiobooks this year and I wish I’d discovered them earlier! You’ve perfectly summed up why I love listening to books – I get to read more and I enjoy previously mundane tasks as long as I can listen at the same time! X x x

Definitely makes the mundane more manageable, huh?
