My mother and I have been buddy reading this book. We read two chapters every day and talk about it. We are twenty chapters in. I’m really enjoying it so far. I had a feeling I would. I listened to the audiobook for Brain On Fire. It was an intense journey through her illness that nobody could really explain or understand.
I have a feeling that that is what inspired her to do research about this. They had diagnosed her with Schizophrenia before somebody decided to do a spinal tap. The spinal tap led to the actual diagnosis and treatment that cured her illness.
This book talks about how a group of people checked themselves into mental hospitals pretending to be mentally ill. They changed their names and made up hearing voices. All of them were diagnosed with the same thing.
I think I’ll leave it at that. My calculations put us finishing this book on NYE. This could very well be the last book I read for the year. We shall see. Either way, I’ll have a review posted when I finish it.
